Why Yoga?

‘In Yoga, the body, breath and mind are seen as a union of these multi-dimensional aspects of each and every human being. The system and various techniques of Yoga cultivate the experience of that union, leading to greater integration of being, internal peacefulness, and clarity of the mind. It is a system that is designed to cultivate health and happiness, and a greater sense of self-awareness and higher consciousness.

Yoga cultivates health and wellbeing (physical, emotional, mental and social) through the regular practice of a range of many different techniques, including postures and movement, breath awareness and breathing exercises, relaxation and concentration, self-inquiry and meditation.

"Yoga is an approach to life that values appropriate effort, based on balance and harmony, within each person and with each other."

Before Class

Generally we are encouraged to not eat 2 hours before practising yoga and breathwork. Digestion requires huge amounts of blood and energy. We want our focus to be directed towards our movement and breath practice – this way you will reap the healing and energetic magic a hundredfold.

The beautiful thing of online classes is you can choose. Set your practice space 5-10mins prior. Ensure that there is enough space and the space is clear. The intention to dedicate your time to the evolution and healing of yourself is a wonderful thing – lighting a candle, placing flowers or a beautiful image in your vision can promote the feeling to extend far beyond your physical. If you are practising outside, ensure you are protected from elements of extreme weather.
Clothes that allow you freedom of movement is ideal. Some people like to wear free fitting pants and tops, others prefer lycra tights or shorts. Whatever makes you feel good!

For your shiatsu session wear loose, comfortable clothing appropriate for the temperature.

Traditionally performed on a futon mat, this treatment may also take place on a treatment table or on a chair, depending on the needs of the client.

Shiatsu is a therapeutic and dynamic form of acupressure, muscle meridian stretching and corrective exercises derived from Japan. Shiatsu involves applying pressure to the body using a practitioner’s thumbs, palms, elbows, knees and feet. It is founded on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine theory that energy moves through channels within the body, known as meridians.

Each session is specifically designed for you – pressure may be gentle or firm, depending on the condition being treated.

Treatment may also include the use of flowing stretches and gentle rotations of the limbs and joints, simple structural alignments and muscle release techniques.

On a physical level this has the effect of stimulating circulation and the flow of lymphatic fluid. It also works on the autonomic nervous system; helps to release toxins and deep-seated tension from the muscles, and can also stimulate the hormonal system. On a subtler level shiatsu allows the receiver to deeply relax, stimulating the body’s inherent ability for self healing an regeneration.
